Chile Quake Killed over 700 People

The 8,8 magnitude earthquake in Chile has killed over 710 people so far. Rescue crews are battling against time to locate survivors under the rubble when strong post-quakes continue rocking the country and spreading panic among people. Authorities are trying to keep order and distribute humanitarian aid. Authorities declared curfew in quake hit regions.

Chile: At Least 300 People Perished in the Quake

xilh_seismos3Chileans have begun counting the cost of the devastating 8.8 magnitude earthquake that struck the country in the early hours of Saturday (local time). Tens of strong aftershocks keep jolting Chile, forcing thousands of people to spend their nights outside their houses. At least 300 people perished in the earthquake, while several have been reported as wounded or missing. Another four people were killed in Juan Fernandez, since the first tidal waves that hit the countries coasts were 1.5 metres high. US authorities lifted the tsunami warning. Rescue workers in Chile are doing their best to pull survivors to safety. The international community said it is ready to extend a helpful hand.

Devastating Quake Rocks Chile

seismos_chile2More than 80 people perished in a massive 8.8-magnitude earthquake that rocked Chile in the early hours of Saturday, while the death toll is feared to rise. Several buildings have been flattened, while telecommunications, water supply and power have been cut in several regions. Interior Minister Edmundo Perez Yoma called for calmness. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said the 8.8-magnitude could cause extensive damage to the coast of Hawaii.
